AI, Authorship, and “Hermes Enodios”

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly common in music production, I wanted to take a moment to explain how it was used in the creation of “Hermes Enodios”

AI-assisted tools were used during the production stage to help with mixing and mastering. They enhanced the finished recording and helped it reach its final form. They were part of the technical production process, not the creative one.

The song itself was never generated from a prompt or created in seconds. It developed organically through songwriting, composition, experimentation, and continual refinement until it became the version you hear today. Every lyric, melody, musical decision, performance, programming, and arrangement came from my own creative process. AI helped shape the presentation of the recording, but it never defined the song's authorship.

I take great pride in both the underlying musical work (the composition) and the finished sound recording. While they're legally distinct works, they both represent my own artistic vision.

I believe transparency is important, especially as new technologies continue to reshape the creative landscape. AI can be an incredibly useful production tool, but it's important to recognize the difference between technology that assists an artist and technology that replaces one. My goal has always been to create music that reflects my own vision and voice.

One lyric has taken on an even deeper meaning for me than it had when I first wrote it:

Not a voice that isn't mine.

When I wrote those words, I couldn't have known how relevant they would eventually become. They perfectly capture what this song represents to me. No matter what tools helped polish the final recording, the voice behind it has always been my own.
